YALI® is a natural, reactive volcanic pumice with pozzolanic properties that is suitable as an aggregate for cement- and lime-bound products, plasters, and mortars, and for blending into concrete. off YALI® can therefore be technically blended into cement-bound products, where it exerts its pozzolanic effect.YALI® is thus a naturally occurring SCM that will be available over the long term to reduce the clinker factor at a time when traditional industrial SCMs such as fly ash and granulated blast furnace slag are becoming increasingly scarce.

YALI® as an aggregate in cement-bound products

YALI®, dried separately and ground to 5,500 baline, can be used, for example, as an aggregate with CEM I as follows:

80% CEM I 42.5 R, 17% YALI, and 3% SO₃ anhydrite should yield the following results (not tested by us): CEM II/A-P 42.5 R: 2 days (MPa): 23.20; 7 days (MPa): 43.80; 28 days (MPa): 58.70; 56 days (MPa): 70.11.

YALI® is mined with a global warming potential of 3.43E+00 per metric ton and shipped to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or Ghent with a global warming potential of approximately 28.00–33.00 kg/metric ton, depending on the size of the ocean-going vessel. Depending on the formulation, YALI® is therefore capable of reducing CO₂ emissions during the production of cement-bound products by between approximately 10% and 30% (see EPD-IES-0002521:002 in conjunction with the CO₂ footprint of NAGEL Baustoff GmbH).
